Over the first week of college basketball returning we’ve seen a number of teams climb much higher than their perceived preseason rankings. We’ve also seen a few teams off to a slower than expected start. We’ll be covering some key observations from the first week since tip off.

Louisville has been confirmed to be THAT good. We had them at our number 2 spot in our preseason poll because of their tremendous guard and shooting talent. With that they’ve been able to beat Kentucky and climb to a KenPom offense that ranks 2nd in the country.

Houston’s offense is almost outside of the KenPom top 25 right at the 25th rank but also rank 1st overall defensively. This could be something to really look at if they play a team with a higher ranked offense than them.

Duke could be the best team on both ends of the court as they currently have the 5th rank offense and 6th defense via KenPom.

Michigan St. is outside of the KenPom top 50 offense with their 53rd rank which could be worrying once they begin to play more elite offenses. San Jose St. was only down 10 late into their game.

According to KenPom UCLA isn't off to a much better offensive start with their 36th rank, they were 37th last season.

Vanderbilt currently has a KenPom offense of 6th and they’ve scored 105 points twice to begin the year.
