Since 2004, every eventual National Title winner has been in the top 12 of the AP Week 6 poll. This is specific to the week 6 poll hence why this is the most important poll to be released during the college basketball season. We will be reviewing the 2025 Week 6 poll that just dropped to find which teams would likely be in it to win it all and which preseason favorites could be considered a long shot.
Here's the 2025 Week 6 AP Poll

We see Arizona, Michigan and Duke at the very top followed by Iowa State who had a huge blowout 23 point win on the road against Purdue. At the bottom of the top 12 we find Louisville and Alabama, both top 5 KenPom offenses. Just looking at it we can see a drop off outside of the top 12 in terms of performance so far with teams including North Carolina, a team who ranks 41st offensively and 21st defensively. We also find title winner Florida along with Illinois, Texas Tech, Tennessee and UCLA outside of the top 12.
Underrated Teams
If we focus on KenPom offense and its success in March, we can see which teams may be a bit underrated in our opinion.
Vanderbilt

This team has the current 2nd ranked KenPom offense in the country and are off to a 9-0 start winning by an average of 24.4 points. Their KenPom offense is ranked higher than teams with NBA lottery picks including Louisville and Alabama. Currently they are 15th on the AP poll and below teams with far less offensive firepower than them. We think Vanderbilt could keep climbing if they continue to play at this high level.
Alabama

The Crimson Tide sit currently outside of the top 10 AP Poll but hold the 3rd highest ranked KenPom offense. Alabama has numerous players with Elite 8 experience to go along with their offense including leading scorers Labaron Philon Jr. and Aden Holloway.
Louisville

They currently are ranked 4th offensively and arguably have the most talented group of guards out of all teams on the poll. Top leading scorer Ryan Conwell and third leading scorer Issac McKneely are both shooting 42% from deep complimenting potential top 3 NBA draft pick Mikel Brown Jr.
Overrated Teams
If we again focus on KenPom offense, we can see which teams may be a bit overrated.
Arizona

To be the number 1 overall team on this poll and outside of the top 5 KenPom offense and defense can be seen as suspect. They rank 9th in offensive efficiency and 10th defensively which no doubt is elite both ways but there are numerous teams below them that are better on either end of the court.
Houston

Even though they are the national runner up, this year's team doesn't quite have the numbers as last season. They rank 6th defensively and were 1st last year while ranking all the way at 29th offensively where they were 12th. To pair with this they also have a loss against Tennessee on a neutral court. To be 7th on the poll could be a bit high.
Michigan St.

With a KenPom offense ranked at 38th, to be in the top 10 AP poll could be a little too high here. Even with the 5th rank defense, they recently lost at home against Duke. They have beaten teams outside of the top 30 KenPom offensive ranks including against Arkansas, North Carolina and Kentucky.
